We’re Back!

After some technical difficulties (meaning I could not figure something out concerning my blogging), we’re back. We have had an eventful summer between helping our daughter and family move and visiting with our son and his wife before he enters medical school. Our daughter is moved and our son is white-coated so we are finding ourselves with a few more minutes to breathe.

Oh, but the grandchildren keep on comin’ back!!!!

Winter Wonderland

We have been at the Lindley House a little over two years now and have not experienced a snowfall until now. Over the Christmas holidays we received several inches of snow — enough to leave our guests stranded in the house for a day.

Even though we could not go to the parties that we had scheduled, we took the opportunity to enjoy one another — and the snow WAS beautiful! What fun to have a white Christmas.

Film Festival Fun

Duncan is an amazing small town with big city events. One such event is the Trail Dance Film Festival held in January. This event allows independent film makers to showcase their films introducing many newcomers to the field of film making. The Festival was named as one of the Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals ‘09 by MovieMaker’s Magazine.

This year the festival’s dates are January 22-24. If you plan to attend, we’d love to have you stay with us. We give special discounts to those who attend the Festival.

Freezing for Fun

I had an unusual twenty-four hours this week camped out in a Chick-fil-a parking lot in sub-freezing weather. For those who aren’t in the know, Chick-fil-a restaurants offer a one year’s supply of free meals to the first one hundred people in line for a Grand Opening of one of their stores. This week Chick-fil-a had a store opening in Oklahoma City and my daughter and I decided to try to be one of the chosen few.

It was not difficult being one of the first 100 because it was raining and snowing when we arrived at 5:45 in the morning to get in line. There were 81 of us brave souls. The tough part was spending the next 24 hours in their parking lot in our little tent trying to stay warm. I have to say that Chick-fil-a has Class A employees. Even the head honchos present treated us like royalty (even if they wouldn’t let us stay in the building or leave the parking lot in the freezing weather).

Yep, I can now eat free at Chick-fil-a for a year. I love saving money — and I’ll even pass it forward. If you mention my blog, I’ll give you 10% off your next reservation. Hey, and I’ll also take $10 off a $75 Romance Package. Yea for saving money!

“Fall”ing

Our gardens are rapidly switching from the summer to the fall now. We only have a few of the summer flowers left, courtesy of the Indian summer we’ve been experiencing. Carey, our daughter, caught a beautiful picture of our gardens from the summer.

The best thing about the fall is that the rooms turn cozier with fires lit and snuggling under the quilts. For those who love the warm days, cool nights, and warm cookies from the oven, this is a perfect time to visit the Lindley House.

The Second City Tickets

November 7 the comedy group The Second City is coming to Duncan and WE HAVE COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS for all of our guests staying with us that Saturday night. The tickets are normally $15.00, but you can go free as our guests.

Cecil Joins the Rotary

Cecil was recently invited to join the Rotary Club in Duncan and was inducted on October 14. Now for me, this means eating lunch alone every Wednesday. Cecil, however, has the pleasure of hobnobbing with many of Duncan’s local businessmen. They usually have a program, but all those who know Cecil will understand that his favorite part is developing new friendships. He loves exchanging ideas and culling advice from more experienced businessmen. Networking is absolutely Cecil’s idea of fun. You see here Cecil on the right inducted by the District Governor of Rotary Club, Russ Davoren.

He counts this as an honor to join this group of men. Me? I go out to eat every Wednesday!

Nestled in a garden-like setting, the English Country home exudes a delightfully romantic and relaxing atmosphere. The Lindley House’s central location places it conveniently within Duncan’s many points of interest, including the downtown shopping area, antique stores, shopping malls, the Simmons Convention Center, The Elk’s Country Club, and Duncan’s newest attraction - The Territory, a private golf and country club community.

The landmark home was built in 1939 by Dr. E.C. and Helen Lindley. Bonnie and Danny Talley purchased the home in August of 1996. Remodeling on the large two-story home began immediately and the Lindley House Bed & Breakfast opened July 1, 1997.
