Occasionally we have the privilege of having a “blast from the past” from our guests. We lived in Norman, Oklahoma for ten years becaming life-long Sooner fans and this week one of our guests was Brian Bosworth “THE BOZ”. He was one of the great football players while we were in Norman and we always enjoyed his colorful time in college. It was a pleasure to rekindle memories while Brian was here and share our home with him.

Cowboys and Cowgirls are coming from Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska to compete. Not only that, but concerts by Jason Boland and the Stragglers and No Justice are following the rodeo each night. Senior Games in Duncan, OK

The 18th annual Senior Games is being held on September 27 at the Simmons Center in Duncan. It is a great time of playing at Chair Aerobics, Stationary Bikes, Shuffleboard, Croquet, Low Impact Aerobics, Disc Golf, Line Dancing, Beachball Volleyball, Zumba (New), Badminton, Darts, Walking Track, Water Aerobics, Horseshoes, Rolling Pin Toss, Ping Pong, Basketball Toss, Yoga, and Water Volleyball (WHEW!)
If you are planning on participating, you might want to stay at the Lindley House the night before where it is peaceful and you can get rested up. Or you might want to consider coming back to a nice comfortable room and taking it easy before you return home.

Western Fall Fest in Duncan, OK

It is all things cowboy including cooking on the cattle drives, a real cattle drive, demonstrations, and entrance into the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center — one of the finest museums in the state. You can also enjoy the Wine’N on the Chisholm Trail and then come back to a relaxing evening at the Lindley House.

We’re Back!

After some technical difficulties (meaning I could not figure something out concerning my blogging), we’re back. We have had an eventful summer between helping our daughter and family move and visiting with our son and his wife before he enters medical school. Our daughter is moved and our son is white-coated so we are finding ourselves with a few more minutes to breathe.

Oh, but the grandchildren keep on comin’ back!!!!

Winter Wonderland

We have been at the Lindley House a little over two years now and have not experienced a snowfall until now. Over the Christmas holidays we received several inches of snow — enough to leave our guests stranded in the house for a day.

Even though we could not go to the parties that we had scheduled, we took the opportunity to enjoy one another — and the snow WAS beautiful! What fun to have a white Christmas.

Film Festival Fun

Duncan is an amazing small town with big city events. One such event is the Trail Dance Film Festival held in January. This event allows independent film makers to showcase their films introducing many newcomers to the field of film making. The Festival was named as one of the Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals ‘09 by MovieMaker’s Magazine.

This year the festival’s dates are January 22-24. If you plan to attend, we’d love to have you stay with us. We give special discounts to those who attend the Festival.

Freezing for Fun

I had an unusual twenty-four hours this week camped out in a Chick-fil-a parking lot in sub-freezing weather. For those who aren’t in the know, Chick-fil-a restaurants offer a one year’s supply of free meals to the first one hundred people in line for a Grand Opening of one of their stores. This week Chick-fil-a had a store opening in Oklahoma City and my daughter and I decided to try to be one of the chosen few.

It was not difficult being one of the first 100 because it was raining and snowing when we arrived at 5:45 in the morning to get in line. There were 81 of us brave souls. The tough part was spending the next 24 hours in their parking lot in our little tent trying to stay warm. I have to say that Chick-fil-a has Class A employees. Even the head honchos present treated us like royalty (even if they wouldn’t let us stay in the building or leave the parking lot in the freezing weather).

Yep, I can now eat free at Chick-fil-a for a year. I love saving money — and I’ll even pass it forward. If you mention my blog, I’ll give you 10% off your next reservation. Hey, and I’ll also take $10 off a $75 Romance Package. Yea for saving money!
